Snorkel / Scuba / Beaches

Ahihi-Kinau Natural Reserve - best snorkeling on the island. South tip.  Hard to get in/out of water. Go early..wear shoes  $5 car   .  MAP 1   MAP 2  see map in book, p. 133

From some:   Entry can be tricky, since there is no beach; just rocks. We chose to keep our shoes on, rather than using fins. Next time, we will use the fins. That will be OK. The cove was warm and calm; just perfect. Saw as many (if not more) fish than out at the Molokini crater. And this location is FREE. Keep driving south on Makena road, past Big Beach, and you will eventually get there. You will see the cove on the right, then drive another quarter mile to the parking lot. Paved lot with portable potties. Then walk back down to the cove. Enter the water at the North end of the cove, next to the road.

Just down the road from the posh resorts of Wailea.Walk the narrow gravel walkway to the cove, and enjoy the best from-the-shore snorkeling.  As you head to the parking lot (which is now very nicely paved) the road narrows and a sign says yield to oncoming traffic - as you continue, it is this small cove on the right that is your snorkeling goal! Park in the lot, and walk back on the gravel path alongside the road from lot to the cove. The required entry point is marked ona handy map - there is a huge flat cement platform underwater that is an easy take offpoint. wear a rash guard and be careful of the random waves that could unexpectedly throw you against the rocks or coral.  e have been to a few of the top 10 rated snorkeling spots in Maui. This is our favorite

Another favorite is Maluaka Beach, near "Turtle Town" - South of Wailea Golf Club.  Go early. Walk south down the beach to the rocks, just near the 16th green of the golf course.

Also in same area, Oneuli Beach - next to Makenna Beach. Black Sand, good for snorkel on calms days.

Kaanapali Beach - North of Lahaina good for snorkel

Kahekili Beach - Lahaina area...near Black Rock.  Sandy beach with reef paralleling the beach.  Enter in front of pavilion
